Apologies, I have been away while a number of my articles have been published, so I will try to catch up now. I’ve been on retreat, so I feel spiritually very healthy - but I’ve come back to some very disturbing stories, so I’m glad I had that boost!
More positive was reading and writing about the incredible courage and love of Father Benoit in the Catholic Herald in honour of Holocaust Remembrance Day on Monday. His story reads like a SAS adventure story, but he was armed with just prayer and faith in his quest to save the lives of Jews from the Nazis. I’m sure I’ve explained to you before how inspiring I find the people who hid and helped the Jews during the war. At a time when anti-Semitism and Nazism is on the rise, I find these stories particularly important and relevant. I also wrote about some other short examples of faith and miracles from Holocaust rescuers for Christian Today.
Speaking of courage, during the past decade of dominant liberalism and “wokeism”, most celebrities have kept firmly on script. But a small number are willing to buck the trend and talk about their Christian faith, or their belief in conservatism or the protection of the unborn. That has taken courage in recent years, though as we shall see, perhaps the tide is turning…
There is a lot going on in politics, especially in the US. (In the UK, the committee that is supposedly scrutinising the euthanasia bill is taking place this week - some pretty appalling examples of neglect and bias are emerging, which I hope to write about soon). So I’ve tried to explain the so-called “vibe shift” - a perceived move towards right wing politics in the US if not the UK, that had its ultimate evidence in the significant increase in support for Donald Trump in the November presidential election, despite the establishment’s very best efforts to get rid of him. An interesting aspect of Trump’s presidency will be how he deals with the so-called “deep state”, which he has promised to dismantle, and I try to present both sides of the story on this subject.
There is so much happening in the world that is alarming and deeply significant, I’m sure those who keep up with the news are quite worried. Please do pray for the media and especially for journalists of faith, as well as the events themselves. I’ve been impressed with a lot of their work I’ve read recently, for example those working to make the obvious dangers of euthanasia clear. The more prayers the better!
